Latest Exhibit at American Museum of Natural History Provides Induction Coils for Hard of Hearing
February 24, 2011
Trenton, NJ The American Museum of Natural History in New York City is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. Since its founding in 1869, the museum has grown to one of the largest and most celebrated in the world. Both the temporary exhibits and permanent exhibits provide an educational and enjoyable experience for young and old. The latest exhibit to be featured is entitled “Brain: The Inside Story” and is centered on the science behind the human brain. Throughout this new exhibit are interactive kiosks that use video and sound to provide a unique experience of discovery and enjoyment while learning. In order for hard of hearing visitors to gain the most benefit from their visit, the museum installed ADA compliant induction coils from Emcom Systems of Trenton, NJ and Assistive Audio of Toledo, OH at each kiosk. These induction coils are designed to work in harmony with hearing aids equipped with telecoil receivers. Recent statistics indicate that over 60% of all hearing aids in the U.S. feature a telecoil receiver inside of them. A hearing aid wearer can switch their hearing aid to the telecoil position and receive clear audio transmitted directly to their ear without the background noise. Based on Emcom’s experience demonstrating the induction coil, hearing aid wearers are amazed at the clarity of the sound. Not only is it clear, but the wearer does not have to struggle to separate what they want to hear from other noise. Installation of Emcom Systems’ induction coils is simple. They can be easily removed and reused in other exhibits throughout the museum. “Brain: The Inside Story” exhibit is now open at the American Museum of Natural History and ends in Aug 2011.
